Pin-pointing Hastings

Battle Abbey and its surrounds, the traditional site of the Battle of Hastings between King Harold and William the Conqueror, may not be the actual site of the battle, according to a new book by Nick Austin, Secrets Of The Norman Invasion.

In his book, Austin pin-points Crowhurst in East Sussex, two miles from Battle, as the real site of the Battle of Hastings, since "the topography depicted in the Bayeux tapestry suggests the clash took place around Crowhurst Manor, not the site of Battle Abbey."
