Location of 13th century seal puzzles experts

A large medieval seal dating to the 13th or 14th century has been discovered in a field in Surrey, England. The mystery of the seal is that it is believed to have originated at Stone Priory in north Staffordshire. (photo)

The bronze seal bears the image of the Virgin and Child and proclaims itself "seal of the church of Saint Mary and Saint Wulfad, Martyr of Stone," which experts place at Stone Priory. Experts have no idea how it ended up in the Cobham field.
