Royal Manuscripts to be displayed at British Library

"When we selected the manuscripts to go on display, we tried to pick those which were visually very strong and had a very strong art element," Kathleen Doyle, curator of illuminated manuscripts at the British Library, said about the exhibition, Royal Manuscripts: The Genius of Illumination.

The exhibit, which will run from November 11 2011 - March 13 2012, will showcase 150 manuscripts from the 8th through 16th centuries including the Westminster Psalter, a 13th century map by Matthew Paris, Henry VIII's Psalter and a huge parchment depicting the lineage of English kings. Additionally, the exhibit investigates the lives of the artists who created the illuminations.
