An amateur archaeologist with a metal detector has discovered hidden treasure
outside London.
David Phillips, an amateur archaeologist, hit gold recently - or at least
silver - when his metal detector located a Roman grave dating from 140 CE. A
small dig is being planned on the site, whose location is being kept secret.
The grave contained a treasure trove of pottery, bronze, glass and jewelry,
including a pair of beautiful silver brooches. The area also included post
holes from what is believed to be a late Iron Age hall or Roman barn.
