In 1453, Italian surgeon Nicolo Barbaro recorded his account of the siege and fall of Constantinople. The diary is now available to read online.
Written from a Venetian point of view, Barbaro records the activities of his fellow Venetians, the Greek and Genoese defenders of the city, and the naval battles which accompanied the siege.
