Lost medieval village of Norton excavation yields treasures

Archaeologists from Oxford Archaeology North who are excavating Lodge Farm near Runcorn, England, believe they have found the medieval village of Norton.

"We have found evidence of buildings in the form of post holes, where vertical timbers were set into the ground, and also shreds of medieval pottery," said Jamie Quartermaine. The artifacts discovered date from the 13th through 15th centuries.

One of the most interesting finds is a bronze lion head believed to have been part of a hat badge. (photo)
