A poem for the inner knight

The Library of Congress has created the Poetry 180: A Poem a Day for American High Schools website which includes an entry entitled "Once upon a Time There Was a Man" by Mac Hammond. The poem may touch the hearts of the inner knight in all of us.

Hammond's "poem in the form of a fairy tale" begins:

Once upon a time there was, there was a man
Who lived inside me wearing this cold armour,
The kind of knight of whom the ladies could be proud
And send with favours through unlikely forests
To fight infidels and other knights and ordinary dragons.
