World chronicle digitized

An amazing fifty-foot (16 meter) long parchment scroll chronicling the history of the western world from creation through the year 1461 has recently been digitized by the Northeast Document Conservation Center. The scroll is lavishly illuminated. (photos)

The scroll is thought to have been owned by the French royal family. It traces the descent of the royal houses of France, England and the Holy Roman Empire from Aeneas of Troy.

The high-resolution, digitalization project was completed for an upcoming book by manuscript scholar Lisa Fagin Davis, to be published in 2011 by Brepols.
