U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell has petitioned the Heraldry Society of
Scotland for a coat of arms.
Colin Powell is proud of his Scottish heritage and wants to prove it with an
authentic coat of arms. To that end, he has petitioned the Heraldry Society of
Scotland on behalf of his father, Luther Powell, a citizen of Jamaica. Powell
could not petition directly because he is not a subject of the British Crown.
A somewhat garbled description of the arms includes, in the crest, the head of
a bald eagle below an escrol with the motto "Devoted to Public Service." The
blazon for the arms is "two swords in saltire, points downward, between four
mullets Argent in a chief of the second a lion passant Gules".
