Jewish Marriage Customs Topic of Recent Books

Haaretz.com: Two books: "Jewish Marriage in Antiquity," and "Man and Woman He Created Them," which look at Jewish marriage customs, are reviewed on Haaretz.com. Several years ago Michael Satlow of Brown University published Jewish Marriage in Antiquity which examines Jewish wedding customs from around the first century, concentrating on the Jewish communities in Eretz Yisrael and Babylonia. Adiel Schremer of Bar-Ilan University looks at the same regions, but during the 5th and 6th centuries C.E. Schremer's focus is the practice of marriage, while Satlow's deals more with ideology.
