A restoration project in the Czech Republic invites those interested in
medieval history to participate, using exact replica tools and fully authentic
construction techniques.
During July and August 2004, participants working under the tutelage of expert
historical craftspeople, will use exact replica tools to restore Malesov Castle
in the Czech Republic. The castle, located near the Vrchlice River near the
town of Kutna Hora, is being transformed into a specialized resort that will
cater to medieval scholars who want to experience fully-authentic medieval
vacations.
According to the web site, the experience is intended not to be the Middle Ages
as we wish they had been, but rather the Middle Ages as they actually were,
with all their grit and hard work. This isn't a trip for the faint of heart,
nor for the poor (the cost, not including air fare, is US$2300/person), but for
a select fiew it could be the experience of a lifetime.
