Scots Take Issue with Depiction of Edward I

Some Scots are irate about the depiction of Edward I, known as the Hammer of the Scots, as "a king of Scotland whose achievements were many and his legend great." The official website of Buckingham Palace has misinformation, according to some Scots. Edward I was not a great Scotish king, as portrayed on the official website, but the "Hammer of the Scots" who invaded Scotland to extend his empire.

"King of Scotland? He's a usurper," said Professor Ted Cowan, a leading Scottish historian. "Edward came in under the guise of a friend, then betrayed the Scots. He believed he had conquered Scotland, but if so, it was only for about six months. He's not recognised by anybody as king of Scots, therefore there cannot be a rebellion against him."
