London Times: The British National Archives has announced that it will place one million
wills from the last thousand years online, including Shakespeare's famous
"second-best bed" bequest.
Researchers and genealogists worldwide will be thrilled to dig through the
British National Archives' inventory of one million wills, which will soon be
placed online. The documents include such famous personages as Shakespeare,
Jane Austen, Napoleon, the Duke of Wellington, Percy Shelley, John Donne, and
Shakespeare's will is included in the collection and, in addition to the
famous "second-best bed," leaves 26s 8d to purchase rings of friendship for
Richard Burbage, John Heminge and Henry Condell, important people in the world
of the English theatre.
