Upholding the tradition of the fan

Among the 76 Livery Companies incorporated in London, is the Worshipful Company of Fan Makers, a craft brought to England in the late 1500's by French Huguenot craftsmen.

Grounded in the past, but still functioning in the present, the Worshipful Company of Fan Makers continues to adapt itself with a website and studies in technology and aerospace.

The Company's aims and objectives include:

  • Maintaining a repository of antique and modern ladies' fans air-conditioning fans, aviation and aerospace fans.
  • Promotion and development of fan expertise.
  • Support London's Fan Museum.
  • Preservation of treasures.

There are now 108 Livery Companies in the City of London.   The Fan Makers are 76th in the order of precedence.

It is charming to see the medieval guild traditions carried on in the 21st century.  Among the more recently founded companies: "The Worshipful Company of Information Technologists."
