Vikings live on in Northwest England

A team of British researchers has recently concluded that Vikings are "alive and well and living in the North West of England." The results of their study have been published in a new book, Viking DNA: The Wirral and West Lancashire Project.

The study used DNA, as well as evidence in documents and place names, to prove "that the Vikings settled heavily in the area and left a huge genetic legacy which survives and continues today." Results show that up to 50 percent of men of the area carry DNA which is Viking in origin.
