It is my distinct honor to present the Atlantian College of Heralds' bid for the Known World Heraldic and Scribal Symposium 2011 to be held in High Point, North Carolina being reckoned as the Canton of Middlegate in the Barony of the Sacred Stone.
The details are below. If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at Gisela.vomKreuzbach@gmail.com
When: June 24-26, 2011
Where: Best Western Hotel and Convention Center
135 S Main Street, High Point, North Carolina, 27260-5205,
Cost: Gate Fee $ 20 until May 31. June 1 and thereafter $ 25. The Group Rate for sleeping rooms is $ 69 a night with a required number of reserved nights at 60.
Proceedings: CD copies of the Proceedings will be provided as part of the gate fee. Extra copies will be available at $ 5. Hard copies will be available by pre-order only at a cost to be determined later.
Food: As is the case at most hotels with kitchens, no outside food may be brought to the meeting spaces. Everything must be provided by the hotel, the prices for which are quite high.
There is a restaurant on site as well as a bar.
House Corvus, an Atlantian household heavy on service and heralds including our own Principal Herald, will sponsor the hospitality suite on the second floor which will be among our block of guest rooms. This suite, which can accommodate 45 people at a time, will serve out light fare on Friday evening, light breakfast foods (pastries, boxed cereal choices, yoghurt, fruit and juices) Saturday and Sunday mornings, and light lunch and dinner choices Saturday.
There will always be coffee brewing and hot water for tea as well as a selection of soft drinks.
It is not our intention that the hospitality suite serve every attendee's complete sustenance needs for the weekend, but certainly that it offer a substantial help as well as a social gathering place through the course of the event.
Rooms: As noted above, the hotel has quoted a discounted rate of $ 69 a night. Sleeping rooms must be reserved directly with the hotel in order to receive the SCA Group Rate and for us to get credit for the room nights.
Transportation: The hotel is about 14 miles from Piedmont International Airport in Greensboro, NC and 88 miles from Raleigh-Durham International Airport. The AMTRAK station is less than two blocks away and the Greyhound Bus Terminal is less than a half mile. The staff will coordinate shuttle service from these transportation hubs to the hotel with prior contact from travellers. We also expect to offer reasonable runs to local stores and restaurants with notice.
