Conference Set to Address Issue of Thornborough Henge

A conference to discuss the fate of the Thornborough Henge, which is threatened by sand and gravel quarries, will take place in late March in Northallerton, England. Fans of the BBC's Time Flyers will recognize the Thornborough Henge which was featured recently on the television program. Now the Henge, part of a group is three, is being threatened by quarries in the area which would "destroy the surrounding enigmatic sacred landscape which holds many keys to unlocking the understanding prehistoric life and ritual in Britain," according to experts.

The conference will be chaired by Dr Peter Addyman, current President of the Yorkshire Archaeological Society, and plans to address the issue by looking at how other historic monuments have handled modernization.
