New Theory on Darnley's Murder Published

Sunday Herald: Dame Muriel Spark's new book puts forward the theory that Joseph Riccio, brother of David Riccio, was responsible for the murder of Lord Henry Stuart Darnley, Mary's second husband. David Riccio was the tutor of Mary Queen of Scots and was killed in presumption of having been her lover as well.

"It was obvious to me because his brother was murdered by Darnley," says Spark of the theory she has published in The Finishing School. "He was a young Italian man in Edinburgh at the time and it is obvious that he would want to seek revenge over his brother's murder. There were also posters put up after Darnley's murder suggesting that Joseph was to blame for his death."
