Fairies and pirates at Santa Fe Renaissance Fair

14th century Spain was the setting for the recent Santa Fe Renaissance Fair where costumed performers and members of the SCA welcomed the public to step back in history and become a "pirateer or a nobleman." Phaedra Haywood  of the Santa Fe New Mexican has the story. (photos)

A fundraiser for "El Rancho de las Golondrinas, a 200-acre living history museum dedicated to the heritage and culture of Spanish Colonial New Mexico, and Open Hands, a Santa Fe-based nonprofit that provides a myriad of services for the elderly and disabled," the faire included shows, contests, games and demonstrations of armored combat.
