Medici Assassination Solved
Submitted by Karen on Tue, 2004-02-10 17:22
Pravda: Marcello Simonetti has published the text of a 15th century coded letter in The Italian Historical Archives which solves the mystery of the murder of Juliano de Medici in 1478.
The letter, which Simonetti found in the municipal library in Urbino,
containing a plan to assassinate both Juliano de Medici and his brother
Lorenzo, was addressed to two envoys of Urbino principality at court of Sixtus
IV in Rome. The instructions seem to be from Federico di Montefeltro, the duke
of Urbino, who warns that "the Pope will face hostility of Florence, Milan and
Venice" should there be delays in carrying out the plot.
