National Geographic: Serafina Cuomo, of Imperial College London's Centre for the History of
Science, has written an article for the February 6, 2004 issue of "Science"
claiming that catapult-makers were the "rock stars" of antiquity.
"In antiquity, catapults not only changed the art of war, but also inaugurated
a new era in the relations between political power and technical experts,"
said researcher Serafina Cuomo in an article for Science entitled "The
Sinews of War: Ancient Catapults." Cuomo believes that catapult-builders were
the star engineers of their time since the design required "an ingenious
combination of geometry, physics, and technology."
