Heather Dale nominated for Pegasus Award

Mistress Marian of Heatherdale, MKA Heather Dale, has been nominated for a Pegasus Award for excellence in filking, in the Best Writer/Composer category. An online ballot is available until October 18, 2010.

Mistress Marian is well known in the SCA, and in her home Kingdom of Ealdormere, for her Celtic folk music and SCA-themed ballads. Her music is available to order online.

Filk music is generally considered "folk music, usually with a science fiction or fantasy theme."

The Pegasus Awards are presented annually at the Ohio Valley Filk Fest (OVFF). Current categories are:

  • Best Filk Song - Any filk song is eligible in this category so long as it has not previously won a Pegasus Award, and has not been on the final ballot in this category in both of the previous two years.
  • Best Classic Filk Song - Any well known filk song that is at least 10 years old and has not previously won a Pegasus Award, and has not been on the final ballot in this category in both of the previous two years.
  • Best Writer/Composer - Any writer/composer of filk songs who has not won this Pegasus Award in the past 5 years.
  • Best Performer - Any performer in the filk community who has not won this Pegasus Award in the past 5 years.
  • Best Mad Science Song - A filk song that in some way or other reflects Mad Science. BWAHAHAHAHA!
  • Best Magic Song - 'Songs of fantasy- forests, castles, sky, and seas... a magic real to you and me...'
