Book examines SCA's medieval fantasy as a performing art

Michael A. Cramer's new book, Medieval Fantasy as Performance: The Society for Creative Anachronism and the Current Middle Ages, considers the organization as an improvisational art form that presents the Middle Ages in a pleasing and entertaining, if not always accurate, way.

According to the review published on Medievalists.net, Cramer "views the Society for Creative Anachronism...as a case study for a growing fascination with medieval fantasy in popular culture". Cramer is a resident of the West Kingdom and a long-time SCA participant with a professional theatrical background, and his book considers the SCA as a manifestation of that art form.
