Bored and looking for something fun to do? Got an itch to go to an event but don't want to be outside in the heat? The Shire of Iron Ox invites one and all to the Academy of Performing Arts that will be held *indoors* in the comfy, cool air conditioning at the Cabot Lodge Millsaps in Jackson MS on July 31.
We have 5 tracks of classes scheduled—an European Track, a Non-European Track, a Bardic Track, a Theater Track, and a Period Gaming Track. Surely, there is something for everyone at this event. Classes will start at 9 am after an energizing yoga warm up by HRM Beatrix. Classes will run all day until 5 pm. Oh, but there is more to come once the classes are over. At 7 pm there will be a Masque of Chivalry in honor of Sir François Duvant followed by a European Ball, a Hafla, a Bardic Circle, and all the Gaming one can stand.
Troll will be open from 7 am until noon, and the reopen from 5 pm-7 pm for those attending only the evening activities.
In addition to the variety of classes in the each of the five tracks, four of Gleann Abhann's premier Performing Arts Laurels will be at the event giving out advice and tips for entering a Performance Arts entry in A&S. And for those entering KA&S in September, members of the Order of the Laurel will be available during the day to take a look at your documentation and give you pointers on how to make it shine. His Excellency Master Charles de Bourbon will be teaching a class on the `nuts and bolts' of entering A&S for those who have never entered A&S before and even those wanting to improve in A&S competitions.
The hotel pool will be open until 10 pm Saturday night. Please be forewarned that there will be no lifeguard on duty. Bring your swim suits and show off your Period Swimming Techniques!
The costs for the event are $15 for adults/$5 for children 6 to 12/free for children under 6. For those wanting to attend the Masque/Ball/Hafla/Bardic Circle only, the cost is $7. All non-members add $5 to these prices. However, please note that Troll will take cash ONLY!!!
Whereas there will not be a feast at this event, there will be munchies and drinks provided in the downstairs Conference Room during the day. Also, there is a Wendy's located next to the hotel as well as several other fast food and sit down restaurants close to the hotel for other food choices.
All of the hotel rooms that had blocked off for those attending the event have been sold; however, there are still rooms with king sized beds outside the blocked off rooms available. These rooms will be at the regular hotel price, not the discounted price that has been advertised.
Also, do not forget that there will be both heavy and light fighter's practice Sunday morning on the grounds of the hotel.
So put on your dancing shoes and get ready for a fun filled event hosted by the wonderful members of the Shire of Iron Ox!
