An amateur actress rehearsing for a show at St. Mary's Church in Redgrave, England got more than a sore ankle when her foot went through a flagstone near the altar. She inadvertently discovered a long-lost burial chamber.
The chamber contains coffins and is thought to date back 500 years and to house the remains of local aristocracy. The existance of the chamber below the 14th century church has long been rumored but not confirmed.
A geophysical team recently indicated the location of the space, but there had been no plans to investigate further. Archeologists will now visit the chamber to record what is there and check the ceiling for further instability.
