Ancient music from Ugarit reconstructed

Working with the earliest musical notation known, Syrian musicologist Ziad Ajjan has composed three pieces from the Ugarit cuneiform tablet known as the "Hymn of Supplication."

The tablet contains words and music, as well as performance instructions to the singer and harpist.

The tablet dates to 1400 BCE. Ajjan built on the previous research of his countrymen Mohammad Ahmad Soso and Sajii Kurkmaz to decipher it.
