Geek accused of boffer terror at G20 in Toronto

Brian Barrett of the fantasy role-playing group Amtgard was on the way to an event bearing the tools of his trade - boffer swords, nerf arrows, and homemade armor - when he was waylaid by authorities enforcing security at the G20 conference. Police searched him at gunpoint and confiscated his armor, weapons, and shields.

The police told him that he could retrieve his posessions after the conference ended, which is why it came as a shock when his posessions were displayed on TV as part of the "terrorist weapons" seized from "criminals" in the area. The police claimed that the boffer arrows were designed to be set on fire and launched at authorities.

"Now I’m going to have to deal with the stigma of being the violent nerdy guy who’s going to go around and break windows and smash banks because he’s angry at the government" laments Barrett.
