The Shire of Granite Mountains' annual "Champions in the Pines" event will take place May 14-15-16 this year. Please come join us for a weekend of fun, fighting, feasting, frivolity, and fine arts. This year we have decided to give the event a bit of a Hawaiian flare!
Tournaments will be held in hardsuit, rapier, and archery for the adults, as well as an Arts and Sciences competition. For the youth there will be archery and Arts and Sciences.
We invite all of Atenveldt to compete in the day's events, as there will be 2 prizes awarded- 1 to the actual winner of the competition, and 1 to the highest scoring Northerner who will become our next champion.
As per our tradition, last year's champions will determine the manner in which this year's tournament will take place. For the Arts and Sciences tournament, judging will be by populace vote. There will also be a "Champions Challenge" and our current champion has laid down a great challenge to anyone who may be up to the task. You must create an original work in calligraphy and illumination (of a poem or song). There will be adult and youth categories. A prize will be awarded for the best entry in each category. Entries in the Champions Challenge also qualify to be entered in the Populace choice for Shire Champion as well.
There will be a feast on Saturday evening, done by our own Lutold von Sonnenthal, renowned for the quantity and quality of his dishes. In keeping with our Hawaiian theme, the menu has been changed from a mediteranian taco bar to a Hawaiian style feast! There will also be a Saturday night revel around the campfire, and a Sunday morning pancake breakfast (donations will be accepted).
The site for this event is the beautiful Bradshaw Pines Camp in Prescott, Arizona. This site is discreetly wet. Camping space is available among the plentiful trees. Stone privies and showers are also available. This site will open on Friday at noon, and will close Sunday at noon.
