For 1.39 euros your candle will appear on an electronic board beside the shrine for anywhere from 11-31 minutes. The cathedral hopes to raise revenues with 500,000 digital offerings a year.

The digital candle operator, an internet start-up called mivela.com, operates electronic candle boards at several other Spanish churches.
