For the 9th time the shire of "Ad Flumen Caerulum" opens the hunting season and once more invites all archers to celebrate the begin of the hunt from Friday to Sunday, 2nd to 4th of July, 2010.
The archery competition will be held on a beautiful field archery course in the alps south of Vienna. This gives an opportunity to test your archery skills by walking through beautiful woods, trying to find the targets and hopefully hitting them.
There will be prizes for the best archers – and the best SCA archer will become the bearer of the Golden Arrow.
The field archery course is a competition grade course - the European field archery championship was held there in spring 2000. In addition to the regular circle style targets it also offers three-dimensional animal shaped targets. As in the years before there will also be a few surprise shots.
Only bare bows and wooden arrows are allowed to take part in this competition. Archers using historical bows and arrows (for instance self nocks) will be given a some advantage in the scoring.
Children are welcome to participate - we will put in a different marker for them to shoot from with closer distances. If there are more then two children participating there will also be special prizes for them. There are no other special children's activities planned but the guest house has a zoo, a large playground and also offers pony riding.
This is a camping event where we prefer historical tents but also welcome those without one - a local guest house has offered the use of a field right beside its premises close to the archery course. Crash-space, showers and other amenities of the guest house may also be used by us. We also plan to use the sauna again in the evening.
If you want things to be a little more luxurious, we can arrange crash space or rooms in the guest house. Reservations for rooms have to be made latest by June 1st - we cannot guarantee successful reservation at any date, but the earlier, the better. No shows with room reservation will have to be charged fully if the cancellation is not made at least two weeks ahead. There is no cancellation-fee for crash space or camping.
The terrain is mountainous, so plan accordingly and bring sturdy shoes! Please note that also at this time of the year the weather can change fast!
The site opens on Friday, 1400h and closes on Sunday noon. The archery competition will commence on Saturday after breakfast at 0900h and will go throughout the whole day. The site is discreetly wet - pets are allowed.
The site fee covers the stay for two nights (either tent or crash space at the guest house), two huge buffet style breakfasts (Saturday and Sunday), a cold lunch on Saturday, warm dinner on Saturday.
Site fee: EUR 39,- (more then EUR 25,- go directly to the inn for camping / crash space and breakfast)
Usage of the archery course will be an additional EUR 13,- for targets and course upkeep. Unfortunately the archery club charges the same amount for adults and children using their facilities.
Breakfast will be buffet-style in the guest house. On Saturday we will provide a cold lunch between the competitions and the famous hunting pot at night.
Discount for children with two adults: up to 2 years: 80%; from 3-6: 50%; from 7-12 years: 30%
Discount available on children's food rates and children with one adult - please inquire. For room rates or off board and for details on money transfer, please contact the event steward.
Please make your reservation by 22nd of May AT THE LATEST – it will make planning food and camping space much easier. Any one with food allergies or dietary restrictions please tell us in advance and as soon as possible so we can prepare.
