A campaign to save the 1,000-year-old St. Lawrence's Church from demolition for
a new airport runaway has been successful.
Owners of the Southend Airport in Essex were disappointed to learn recently
that their plans to expand their airport would not be approved by the town
council. The plan would involve the destruction of St. Lawrence Church, a
1,000-year-old structure. Nearly 6,000 letters were sent to the council
opposing the destruction of the church.
