Creating medieval magic in Maine

For the children of Bangor, Maine, the Middle Ages came to life recently as members of the Shire of Endewearde (East Kingdom) created a magical, medieval world at the Maine Discovery Museum. Reporter Meg Haskell, of the Bangor Daily News, spoke with both re-enactors and their mesmerized guests. (photo & video)

The emphasis for the day was on the arts and sciences as children were given hands-on opportunities to explore calligraphy, armoring, costuming and siege engines. 14-year-old SCA member Elsbeth Ksyniak talked about her love for the Middle Ages, “Most people don’t know anything about medieval stuff,” she said. “I love the beautiful way they lived.”

Reporter Meghan Hayward of WABI Channel 5 also attended the event and provides a short video of some of the activities.
