British Museum to host York treasures

A stunning collection of artifacts from the Yorkshire Museum will be given a place of honor at the British Museum in London for the exhibition The Treasures of Medieval York: England’s Other Capital until summer 2010.

“But we’ve never had anything like this!” said Jonathan Williams, the British Museum’s keeper of prehistory and Europe. “This brings home the way ordinary life was lived in medieval times in a way that finery and jewels don’t.”

The collection is on loan to the museum while the Yorkshire Museum undergoes a UK£2 million revamp.
