The dark origins of Valentine's Day

Nearly everyone celebrates Valentine's Day, but many are not familiar with the origins, some rather dark, of the holiday for lovers. Ngonidzashe Dzimiri of the Sunday Standard offers a history.

Dzimiri looks at the history of St. Valentine, a 5th century Roman bishop who defied the emperor to marry young couples, and Cupid, son of Venus, who pierced his lover's heart with an arrow to wake her from a deep sleep.
