Search on for St. Columba's Scottish monastery

Archaeologists from Orkney College are looking for the original 6th century monastery built by the Irish monk St. Columba on the island of Iona, off Mull in the Scottish Hebrides.

The team will be using the latest technology to search fields around Iona Abbey. Said Derek Alexander, an archaeologist with the National Trust for Scotland, "The last survey was carried out in the 1970s, and while this has shown us where to start looking, the the equipment available now will enable us to explore the site in much greater detail."
