Mona Lisa identity may cause da Vinci exhumation

A team of experts from Italy’s National Committee for Cultural Heritage are requesting permission to exhume the remains of Leonardo da Vinci in hopes of revealing the real identity of the Mona Lisa.

For generations, art historians have compared the features of the famous paintig with those of da Vinci himself. They believe that a comparison of the artist's skull with the painting will reveal that the Mona Lisa is a self portrait.

"If Leonardo heard about all this, he'd have a good chuckle," said  Nicholas Turner, a former curator of drawings at the Getty Museum.
