There were no damsels in distress at the recent Southeast United States Jousting Champion at the Escambia County Equestrian Center, just competitive jousters vying for the title. Rebecca Ross of the Pensicola News Journal has the story.
"I'm here to knock the snot bubbles out of the other guy," said Charlie Andrews, in an unabashedly gleeful tone. "I'm here to win."
The three-day event included live entertainment, food and vendors, and was the first such championship in the area. "This isn't the choreographed jousting of Renaissance fairs and festivals. It's a medieval demolition derby, complete with trash-talking and body blows."
