Dancing and fighting SCA-style at the University of New Mexico

It was a typical Monday night in the Student Union Building of the University of new Mexico as members of the local SCA group learned Amoroso dance steps from instructor Laura Smalley. Reporter Candance Hsu of the university's Daily Lobo stopped by to learn about the SCA.

According to Hsu, members of the group meet three times a week to learn period dancing, armored combat and arts and sciences. "We re-create aspects of the Middle Ages," said group president Natasha Glazener. "For instance, back then they could weave linen so fine that we cannot duplicate it today. So, we cannot duplicate it because we do not have proper materials, therefore we look back and find how they did things."
