"Pseudo-medieval spectacles" in Ocala forest

Residents of Ocala, Florida are being educated in the arts and fighting of the Middle Ages by way of members of the Shire of Amugorod. Michael Oppermann, correspondent for Ocala.com, recently met with members of the group to discuss the SCA. (photos)

"Just about anything somebody is interested in has an area within the SCA," said Janet Howard, known as the Honorable Lady Uesugi Yamaneko, Seneschal of the Shire of Amugorod. Howard became interested in the group due to her 12-year-old son's fascination with the Middle Ages. “He saw the demo at Hoggetowne and said, ‘I want to do this,' so we researched it and joined,” she said, adding that she finds group events to be very family oriented.
