Experts believe the book was produced by monks in Iona nearly 1,000 ago. "People have been reluctant to show it, but now we have a special display case, and really this is the book's first public outing in 1,000 years," said Edinburgh University's rare book librarian Joseph Marshall.

The Celtic Psalter, Scotland's oldest book, dating to the 11th century, has been placed on display at the University of Edinburgh for the first time in history. The book contains "hand-written psalms in Latin, with Celtic and Pictish illustrations."
