Heian Period makeup kit found in Japan

A makeup kit, which includes scissors and tweezers, dating to the Heian Period (794-1192), has been discovered in a tomb in Nishiwaki, Japan. (photo)

The kit also included a Chinese-made bronze mirror, and clay and porcelain pots. "It's very, very rare to discover ancient makeup implements," Shiro Yamashita, the museum's head of public relations said Thursday by phone.
