Shakespeare's New Place to be excavated

Archaeologists in Stratford-upon-Avon are preparing to excavate the New Place, the remains of Shakespeare's last home.

All that remains of the house today are foundations and rubbish pits beneath a landscaped garden, but Dr. Diana Owen, director of the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, hopes "to create a modern record of New Place, providing us with a better understanding of the site, and potentially revealing new information about the house in which Shakespeare died and the way in which the family lived there."
