Welsh Sun-Disc Declared Treasure

A Copper or Bronze Age sun disc, considered to be the earliest artifact of its kind to be discovered in Wales, has been declared a treasure. A 4,000-year-old sun disc, discovered at Cwmystwyth Mines, near Aberystwyth, Wales by freelance archaeologist Simon Timberlake, may be the oldest such artifact ever found in Wales. Now, a court has declared the disc a treasure, making it possible for the archaeologist to sell it. The disc was found by chance while researchers worked on Roman and medieval sites. The National Museums & Galleries of Wales is expected to make an offer for the piece.
