Calling AAA: Mons Meg has a flat

Historic Scotland experts were called in recently to assess damage to Mons Meg, the historic cannon on the ramparts of Edinburgh Castle, which has a broken wheel.

The 8-ton cannon was lifted with two cranes in order to repair the broken metal rim of the carriage wheel. Experts will also take the opportunity to inspect and paint the "supergun" while it is dismantled. Mons Meg was built in 1449 and last fired in 1558.
