Four gentles competed for the honor of serving as Palatine Baron and with the honor of four gentle Ladies. They were Fabian Silverhawk for THLady Abe Akirakeiko, Lord Saito Takauji for Lady Cascata Nerina Bjornsdottir, Phoenix Bravecat fighting for Lady Tawny, and Baron Vail Visconti for Mistress Marixsa of Crawfordsmuir.
At the end of the tournament Baron Vail Visconti stood victorious and presided over the tournament to select the Barony’s Heavy Weapons Champion. Three gentles competed in this tournament: Lord Rothri de Ross (outgoing Baron), Fabian Silverhawk and Phoenix Bravecat. Fabian stood victorious.
This coronet tournament is notable both for being the inaugural event of the Canton of the Golden Plains and for featuring nobles from three different countries competing, and saw a Japanese member become Baron and one of the first Thai members become Heavy Weapons Champion.
Following the tournaments, court was held. Continuing in a new Far West Tradition™, the Palatine Baroness Katherine d’Aquitaine wasn’t able to attend due to unforeseen passport problems, and so held her final court via a video link and laptop, sitting next to her flesh-and-blood consort, Rothri de Ross. Several awards were given during their final court:
- Ii Saburou Katsumori -- The Order of the Burdened Bouget
- Aine Sindradottir -- The Order of the Burdened Bouget
- Jak Graeme -- Order of the Sea Griffon
- Jak Graeme -- Order of the Attic Helm
- Saito Takauji -- Honor of the Far West Support
- Fabian Silverhawk -- Award of Arms
- Phoenix Bravecat -- Award of Arms
- Warris of the Far West -- Award of Arms
After the final court of their Excellencies Katherine and Rothri, Baron Vail stepped up for himself and his consort, and held their first court. Rothri de Ross was given the Order of the Leaping Dolphin (the award for outgoing Barons and Baronesses) and the Order of the Burdened Bouget (the Baronial service award). Mistress Katherine received the Order of the Leaping Dolphin, having not received it previously.
Lord Fabian Silverhawk was also called forth to be congratulated on becoming the new Baronial Heavy Champion.
After court there was a sumptuous feast held, cooked by THLady Aine, which had a varied menu – with the favorite dish being Savory Toasted Cheese. The menu consisted of two main courses and a dessert course. In addition to sallet, almond ryse, spiced beef, Hungarian chicken and the aforementioned cheese, there were sundry other foods and drinks including raspberry Sekanjabin and a whole tray of digby cakes and other sweets.
All in all the event was a success, with a happy and well done change of Baronage and a tasty, filling feast.
