It's Not Just Your Sister's Handfasting!

We're looking for extraordinary Special Events to spice up this Great (Western) War! If you have a fiendishly fabulous, ridiculously romantic, absolutely anarchic, or even somewhat silly event that you would like to host, please contact us! We will do everything we can to get the word out and the parties on! Lady Fiametta Margherita del Sanguigno (fia@pacbell.net) Duena Rosario de la Torre (gestroben@yahoo.com)

So what's going on you say? How about this?:

EQUESTRIAN
Thundering hooves will once again be heard by the lakeshore! Equestrian events are scheduled for Thursday through Sunday, starting each day at 10am and 4pm. There will also be several non-rider horse activities again for those interested in learning more, such as Horse101 and Stable StoryTime. (Bring the kids! Pet the pony!)

If you are bringing a horse, you must pre-register your horse (different from the people registration). Stalls are available (must pre-reg!).

If you are interested in a rental horse, please contact the EQ autocrat (zia2005@me.com) - we may be able to have some this year!

VOLUNTEERING
It's volunteers that make the war happen. Every activity, every position, every part of our SCA events is put together and taken down by volunteers. Please try to fit a two-hour shift into your busy schedule. No special training or knowledge is required for most positions and you'll have our hardy thanks for your time. You can sign up to help when you check in or stop by the Event Services tent to see what positions need help. We will do our best to find the right job for everyone and it will make the war so much fun! Volunteers are rewarded in a number of ways:

  • It will give you a very good feeling to know that you helped out.
  • You may make some great new friends.
  • You can earn credits for your local group or favorite activity, which converts to cash for them.
  • Support your Barony, or give the points to children's activities, or to a Kingdom fund, ask the person that signs your card if the group you have in mind is eligible.
  • When you turn in your volunteer card you'll be given raffle tickets. The merchants and other groups donate lots of good stuff that is raffled off near the end of the war.

ARTS AND SCIENCES AND ARTISAN?S ENCLAVE:
UP TO DATE Information on Arts and Sciences online.

ARTISANS ENCLAVE is a new feature of GWW XII, in conjunction with Arts & Sciences, to provide a special place for crafts demonstrations, get hands-on experience, discuss techniques and solutions, and get inspired anew.

We will have structured classes and workshops where you can come by and see what catches your fancy and join in! We will have pavilions hosting Bardic and Music tent, Bead and Jewelry Making, General Crafts, Culinary, Fiber Making, Fine Textiles, Leather and Woodworking, wet textiles and Metalworking which will be hosting the "Black Cross" where you can go for armor repairs at a moment's notice!

ARTISANS: The Enclave is looking for individual artisans as well as guilds interested in demonstrating and/or teaching. Absolute newcomers to the SCA are very welcome to share their craft and knowledge; "Artisans" need not be Laurels or even hold a rank. Artisans decide how long they wish to demo: For example, a weaving guild might demo for an entire day or even through the week while soap-makers might demo for two hours on only one day of the War.

COMPETITIONS: Dig out your projects, finished and unfinished, for Great Western War! This year we will again be sponsoring our usual People's Prize competition. The criteria is simple: Entry from any discipline, documented or not. The projects will be displayed in the Arts and Sciences area on Saturday, and awards given at court Saturday evening! Projects can be dropped off Saturday between 9am and 10am, and can be picked up Saturday after 4pm.Projects must be picked up by the end of court.

A new feature of the Arts and Sciences area will be the Nefarious UFO competition. This competition, to be held concurrently with the People?s Prize, will feature those lurking UnFinished Objects from your storage or the Rubbermaid tub under the bed. This is a chance for you to drag out your unfinished projects and give them light! We do ask that you document how long you have been working on the project, what made you take it up, and the reason the poor thing has not been completed! This may be just the thing you need to become re-inspired!

Of course being the traditionists that we are, a GWW Favorite returns:
