1,000-year-old tree mark discovered in Prague

Archaeologists have discovered a star-shaped tree mark near Celakovice in the Czech Republic. The mark, probably the oldest such mark ever discovered, is believed to have marked territory.

The "tree sign" was found on an oak among a group of trees near the Elbe River which date to 600-800 C.E. The bark was removed around the mark sometime in the early Middle Ages.
