Before "Ye Olde Wal-Mart": Okeborne Keep Shire demo in Meridies

The citizens of Northport, Alabama were promised a day of "blacksmithing, baking and armored men sword-fighting" recently as members of the Okeborne Keep Shire of the Society for Creative Anachronism came to town. Brian Reynolds of the Tuscaloosa News has the story.

“We’re trying to answer the ‘Why?’ of how did they get it. How did it get made, where did it come from,” said Kerry Kennedy, event organizer about the demo of weaving and pottery. “Before you had ‘Ye Olde Wal-Mart,’ you had to spin your own thread, process your own fiber and weave or knit your own cloth."
