The mosaic, entitled Five Sisters, took its inspiration from the famous stained glass window in York Minster, created over the centuries from small pieces of glass. The broken pottery was provided by the York Museums Trust from archaeological digs in Yorkshire. Five Sisters will be on display until November 2009.

What to do with thousands of fragments of medieval pottery? Make them into a mosaic work of art mirroring a 13th century stained glass window, of course! That is what Emma Biggs and Matthew Colling have done at St Mary’s Church, in Castlegate, England.
