A controversial program based on Dan Brown's best-selling book, "The Da Vinci Code" will air on ABC News November 3, 2003. An hour-long ABC News special, "Jesus, Mary and Da Vinci," will air ABC Monday November 3, 2003 at 8:00 p.m. The program will explore the controversial theory that Mary Magdalene was the wife of Jesus and fled the Middle East after the crucifixion, ultimately marrying into French nobility.

ABC may be taking a risk by broadcasting the program, but the popularity of the novel by Dan Brown cannot be disputed. It has been on bestseller lists for months. The book deals with a secret society, akin to the Knights Templar, which protects artifacts from the family of Jesus, and suggests that Da Vinci was part of the society, leaving a hint in his famous painting "The Last Supper."
